“Why would you want to help us after what we did to you?” A good question. Universal & Blumhouse have revealed the second & final full trailer for M3GAN 2.0, the crazy horror sequel follow-up to the iconic 2023 horror smash M3gan. Finally out in theaters in June this summer. The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. The original team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse, director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0. Time for a Terminator 2 upgrade? Two years after M3GAN’s rampage, her creator Gemma (now a leading A.I. expert) resorts to resurrecting her infamous creation in order to take down Amelia, the military-grade weapon built by a defense contractor who stole M3GAN’s underlying tech. Allison Williams returns with Violet McGraw, Ivanna Sakhno, Amie Donald & Jenna Davis (as M3gan), Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, Jemaine Clement. This looks way, way more like an action-packed sci-fi epic battle movie than a horror sequel! Damn! I need to watch this just to see how totally bonkers it gets with these two ‘bots. Two years after M3GAN first went rogue and embarked on a murderous rampage, and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules. Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen & misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around. With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, & more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.
M3GAN 2.0 is directed by American genre filmmaker Gerard Johnstone, director of the first M3GAN film and Housebound previously, plus episodes of the TV series “Terry Teo” and “The New Legends of Monkey”. The screenplay is again written by Akela Cooper, who wrote the first screenplay (also Malignant, The Nun II). Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and Allison Williams; made by Blumhouse. Universal will debut Johnstone’s M3GAN 2.0 in theaters nationwide starting June 27th, 2025 this summer. Ready for more?
