Born Again Season 2 Return Already Makes Perfect Sense

Jessica Jones is returning to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and it makes perfect sense after rewatching the whole of The Defenders. After years of uncertainty, the MCU timeline is finally beginning to weave its Defenders-era characters back into canon. Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin were the first to be reintroduced, now Krysten Ritter is confirmed to return as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Upon rewatching The Defenders and her own series, it becomes clear why Jessica is the next Defender to be reintegrated into the MCU.

The Netflix-era Marvel shows – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the ensemble Defenders miniseries – have fluctuated in terms of canonical status. That changed with the arrival of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk, and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk in Hawkeye and Echo. Now, Krysten Ritter’s confirmed return in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 suggests Marvel Studios is ready to lean more heavily on the established history of The Defenders, especially where it aligns most naturally with the tone and themes of Born Again.

Jessica Jones’ Return Has Been Confirmed For The Next Chapter Of Daredevil: Born Again

Krysten Ritter Will Return To The MCU

After months of speculation, it’s now official: Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. While exact plot details are still under wraps, her involvement signals a deliberate continuation of not only Matt Murdock’s journey but also the broader tapestry of New York’s street-level heroes. Her reintroduction comes in the wake of Mayor Wilson Fisk enacting his anti-vigilante laws, which Matt Murdock and, presumably, Jessica Jones, are planning to fight back against.

Thunderbolts*’ Ending Gives Daredevil The Perfect Reason To Double Down On Taking Kingpin Out In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Theory

Daredevil: Born Again could have some major implications in season 2 after the major events of Thunderbolts* in the MCU if this theory proves correct.

Ritter’s performance as Jessica Jones was widely praised for its gritty realism, emotional depth, and no-nonsense attitude. Her show dove into trauma, autonomy, and the complicated ethics of power – threads that resonate strongly with the moral complexity of Matt Murdock’s story. Bringing her back now, after the MCU has reestablished Matt and Fisk, adds another rich, layered character who fits the new tone Born Again is building.

The Defenders Already Shows Why Jessica Jones Being The Next Defender To Return In The MCU Makes Sense

Jessica Jones And Matt Murdock Have A Lot Of Similarities

Among all the Defenders, Jessica Jones had the closest characterization to Matt Murdock. The Defenders didn’t just pair them as allies – it established a mutual respect built on shared values and similar methods. Jessica may not wear a costume, but she operates with a code, and that’s something Matt immediately recognized.

Their civilian professions are similarly aligned – Jessica as a private investigator, and Matt as a lawyer. Their talents complemented each other: she uncovered truths in the shadows while he sought justice in the courts. In many ways, they both reflected a grounded, noir-like take on superhero crime-solving.

After Jessica Jones’ Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Return, I’m Convinced Marvel Is Bringing Back Luke Cage And Iron Fist

Jessica Jones returns in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and there are now teases about Iron Fist and Luke Cage coming back to the MCU to help Matt.

More than Luke Cage or Danny Rand, Jessica’s arc in The Defenders echoed Matt’s internal struggle. Both grappled with the burden of power, their own isolation, and whether they even wanted to be heroes. Their chemistry – unromantic but rooted in a mutual sense of responsibility – made them natural collaborators. So in rewatching The Defenders, it feels like a foregone conclusion that Jessica would be the first Defender to return alongside Daredevil.

Could Danny Rand And Luke Cage Return To The MCU Next?

Jessica Jones isn’t just a great match thematically for Matt – her return also opens the door for other Defenders to re-enter the MCU more smoothly. She’s the connective tissue between several characters. Her relationships with Luke Cage and Malcolm Ducasse, in particular, could make their returns organic rather than forced.

Luke’s potential return is especially promising. Given Jessica and Luke’s deep, complicated history, even a brief appearance by Jessica in Born Again could lay the groundwork for reintroducing Harlem’s Hero. Meanwhile, Iron Fist might still need some reworking to align with the MCU’s tone, but establishing Jessica back in the mix gives Danny Rand a familiar face to lean on when his time comes.

In other words, Jessica Jones is a gateway. She’s grounded, beloved, and fits snugly into the MCU’s expanding street-level corner. With her return in Daredevil: Born Again now confirmed, Marvel Studios has made the smartest next move – and rewatching The Defenders only reinforces how perfectly it all lines up.
