After the death of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) in 9-1-1, the first question that came to mind was who was the right person to take over the captain position of the 118. Although 9-1-1‘s Hen (Aisha Hinds) seemed like the obvious choice in the matter, she knew she wasn’t the best choice as she had her priorities lined up elsewhere. This was a job that was meant for someone else, someone that had been in front of our faces since the beginning.
After battling with his own guilt about Bobby’s death, Chimney (Kenneth Choi) stepped up and showed the firefighters in the 9-1-1 season 8 finale that he was the right man for the job. 9-1-1 season 9 is going to be the real test of his ability. The thing is, Chimney was always the obvious choice. Although we were not thinking about it at the time, there’s an episode of season 2 that showed us exactly why Chim was the only choice to take over the 118 after Bobby.
9-1-1 Season 2, Episode 12 Highlights How Truly Equipped Chimney Is In Stepping Into Bobby’s Shoes
He Has Gone Through This Pain Before And Came Out Stronger On The Other Side.
One of 9-1-1‘s best episodes, season 2, episode 12, “Chimney Begins” reveals Chimney’s origin story and how he became the leader that he is today. Chimney faced one of the hardest days of his life as he lost his brother in a fire they were fighting together. A grief like this would consume anyone and cause them to quit, but he decided to stay because helping people is his true calling. Chimney knew the risks and had seen many people he loved perish from the job, but he stayed.

The Aftermath Of Bobby’s Death In 9-1-1 Will Be Hardest On One 118 Firefighter – And It’s Not Buck
Chimney will need to find a way to honor Bobby’s legacy while still finding his own path as the new captain of the 118 in ABC’s 9-1-1.
This episode showed Chimney at his lowest and still willing to put his all into the job in spite of the pain that he was feeling. Instead, he remembered that his brother would want him to continue to work at a job he was passionate about. In this episode, Chimney surveyed the call he was on and thought outside the box. At this time, Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) would not give Chimney the time of day. His captain, Gerrard (Brian Thompson), would not listen to him because he was still new.
This is the most important quality in a captain – someone that is willing to fight for their team regardless of personal feelings.
However, when he determined that the situation was unsafe, Chimney risked his life to save Tommy from an explosion in the building. He did not think about the way Tommy had treated him for months prior. He just believed that it was the right thing to do. This is the most important quality in a captain – someone that is willing to fight for their team regardless of personal feelings.
